Programme
The brass trio formed by the maestros of the OBC offers a broad perspective on music created for a little-known ensemble.
The striking trios by German Oskar Böhme were written in the form of a prelude and fugue. The first of these sets a restrained prelude of extreme lyrical beauty against a martial fugue. In turn, Czech Vaclav Nelhybel displays sharp, incisive writing in his trio, which places Kurt Weill’s universe within a structure full of surprising twists and turns and sarcastic humour. The trio by American Mark E. Wolfram contrasts three movements: a powerful Fanfare, the contemplative Elegy and a brilliant Dance, all tinged with interesting metrical games and hints of jazz Also in the form of a fanfare, Eric Ewazen proposes a powerful and colorful work that reveals a delightful interaction between the performers. Finally, American composer Lauren Bernofsky proposes a technical challenge to the instrumentalists in a captivating, lyrical, energetic, and very entertaining work.
