Programme

The wind octet formed by the maestros of the OBC offers us a repertoire of situational music by two essential composers of the classical repertoire: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Although Mozart and Beethoven are well known and appreciated for their great works, both of their compositional quality also extended even to situational scores, such as these wind octets. In Mozart’s case, he apparently composed his light and brilliant Divertimento KV 226 for the Munich Carnival season of 1775. Beethoven, for his part, wrote the Octet in E flat major, Op. 103 and what seems to have been his last movement, the Rondino in E flat major, WoO 25, for the soirees of Archduke Maximilian Franz of Austria. Two works from his youth in which he already revealed great compositional audacity.
