Stanculeasa has been chosen by a jury of 43 members: the entire violin section, the soloists and assistants of the rest of the sections, the OBC management team, a guest external concertmaster, a representative of the Barcelona City Council and one from the Generalitat of Catalonia. The jury has highlighted his precision in the execution and a clean and transparent sound as well as a profound stylistic knowledge. His excellent ear combined with the important career that he has already developed despite his youth will be a great contribution to the future of the OBC.
The Barcelona Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia has received a total of 102 candidates for the position of concertmaster. The auditions of the nine finalists have been held today.

The young Romanian violinist Vlad Stănculeasa, at only 33 years old, is enjoying a rich musical life as a soloist, concert player and chamber musician in Europe, Asia and South America.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne and the George Enescu Philharmonic, among others. He has collaborated as a soloist with many renowned directors, such as Kent Nagano and Han Na Chang. Stănculeasa has been Concertmaster of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since 2010 and of the ONE the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. He was previously Concertmaster of the Basel Chamber Orchestra where he often also conducted the orchestra.
Stanculeasa also frequents the chamber repertoire with some of today’s most celebrated musicians including Maxim Vengerov, Janine Jansen, Viktoria Mullova, Jeremy Menuhin and Ana Chumachenco. He was awarded important prizes at the George Enescu International Violin Competition, Renata Molinari Contest, Valsesia Musica International Competition, and the 2007 Enescu Award for the best show of Enescu’s Impressions d’enfance.
He studied with Alberto Lysy and Liviu Prunaru at the International Menuhin Music Academy of Gstaad, Switzerland, and obtained the Master of Music from the Conservatory of Lausanne under the tutelage of Pierre Amoyal.
Stănculeasa plays a Pietro Guarneri of Venice 1730 on loan from the Göteborgs Symfoniker Vänner Society of Gothenburg, Sweden, and a Sanctus Seraphina from 1739, which belonged to George Enescu and his great pupil Yehudi Menuhin.
