Violinist Diana Tishchenko and the Mar Serra Grup kick off the Festival Emergents

24-Mar-2021 – Aleix Palau

Once again this year, L’Auditori de Barcelona presents the Festival Emergents Barcelona, one of the most important events in its calendar, to which the most outstanding young artists on the national and international scenes will be invited to perform.

The new edition of the Festival will begin tomorrow evening with two contrasting offerings. There will be performances to enjoy by Russian violinist Diana Tishchenko (Hall 2, Oriol Martorell, at 6.30 pm) on the one hand, and by the jazz group led by Catalan pianist Mar Serra (Hall 3, Tete Montoliu, at 8 pm) on the other.

Violinist Diana Tishchenko is an ECHO artist who has already found her voice on the international music scene. The musician, whose talent is endorsed by awards such as the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Music Competition, among others, will be accompanied on the piano by Georgy Tchaidze, with whom she will perform the intense < em>Sonata in A major by César Franck, the arrangement for violin and piano devised by Stravinsky of his own ballet The Fairy’s Kiss, and Sofia Gubaidulina’s Dancer on a Tightrope, a work that contrasts the ideas of risk and freedom.

As regards Mar Serra, the pianist and composer specialising in classical, contemporary and new music, will present her second album, I sempre demà (And always tomorrow), with her sextet, the Mar Serra Grup. This is a collection of pieces composed by Serra herself combining her own style with those of Frederic Mompou, Robert Gerhard and Manuel Blancafort. A concert held in collaboration with the Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC) and described by Mar Serra herself as, “a glance that starts from small musical moments by these composers and transforms them in the search for their own language”.

The programme comprises fourteen concerts exploring everything from jazz to chamber music and from early music to symphonic music. More specifically, there will be four symphonic concerts, four chamber concerts, four jazz concerts and two choral concerts. These shows have been organised in conjunction with Catalonia’s major music institutions, with support from the Caixa d’Enginyers foundation and in collaboration with Estrella Damm.

The new edition of the Festival Emergents has a new format, moving from the previous duration of one week to a more condensed four-day programme. The aim is to produce a more intensive programme resulting in an enhanced festival experience.

L’Auditori de Barcelona has created a €25 pass to the Festival for under-35s. Single tickets start at €5.
