Program
The most excellent, virtuous and well- loved violin concerto established Mendelssohn at the forefront of romantic music. This popular piece, in the hands of the young violinist from Tarragona Inés Issel, precedes the Barcelona premiere of the latest symphonic work by Russian composer Gennadi Chernov, a glorious and spectacular work.Mendelssohn was a child prodigy who was writing symphonies at the age of 12. At 21 he travelled to the Hebrides in Scotland where the beauty of the caves and the force of the sea inspired him to compose a magnificent work. In his later years he composed the Violin Concerto which would become immortal and was an unprecedented success from its first performance. In the second part of the programme, Salvador Brotons conducts the powerful sixth symphony by the composer born in Uzbekistan, Gennadi Chernov, which includes popular themes from his country. A large-scale, complex and emotive work that defines the language of one of the great composers of our time.
