MENDELSSOHN: String Octet, Op. 20 in E-flat major
Interpreters and guest artists
Franck Heudiard and Miquel Serrahima, violas
José Mor and Olga Manescu, cellos
The Brahms string sextets are works that bring the wonderful s symphonic sounds from the Hamburg composer to a chamber music setting. These extremely lyrical works with masterfully transparent writing are some of the best examples of 19th century chamber music. Years earlier, in 1825, at the age of 16, a promising young Mendelssohn wrote one of the masterpieces of chamber music for double string quartet. A concert which features two of the great wonders of chamber music.
