The Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and L’Auditori are ‎once again organising the now traditional beach concert to celebrate International Music Day ‎with the entire city and herald the arrival of the summer against the magnificent backdrop of ‎the Mediterranean Sea.‎

Admission to the concert is completely free and will take place on Saturday 30 June at 9 pm ‎on the stage on Sant Sebastià beach (at the end of Passeig Joan de Borbó in Barcelona, ‎opposite the W Hotel), and anyone who wants to can sit on the sand and listen to the music.‎

The OBC beach concert this year is marking its fifth edition and has become Barcelona’s top ‎summer symphony event, attracting more than 14,000 people who don’t want to miss out on ‎the unique opportunity to enjoy some of the best extracts from the greatest symphonic ‎works right next to the sea.‎

The prestigious conductor Álvaro Albiach will be charged with leading this year’s concert that ‎includes the music of Leonard Bernstein (2018 marks the centenary of his birth) and great ‎classical music favourites.‎

Those who cannot get to the beach concert on 30 June or anyone who would like to see it ‎again will have the opportunity to view it at a later date. It will be recorded and broadcast by ‎the Catalan TV channel Canal 33 on Friday 6 July at 10 pm.‎

The concert on the beach is part of the new OBCPops series that offers a selection of ‎symphonic pieces to delight any audience so they get to enjoy classical music in a relaxed ‎atmosphere. OBCPops combines its street concerts with popular favourites such as film ‎soundtracks and songs from musicals, plus new fusions such as the collaboration with jazz ‎pianist Brad Mehldau.‎

The next OBCPops event will be on 18 and 19 July, with the restaging of West ‎Side ‎Story‎ whose three concerts last January were a sell-out success.‎

Sea, the setting sun, sand and the best symphonic music!‎
Such was the OBC concert on the beach in La Barceloneta in 2017.‎
