The 360 singers selected to form part of the OBC choir are preparing the final rehearsals before the big premiere

24-Apr-2018 – Lisi Andrés

The new project of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC) that will allow 360 singers to take the stage in Hall 1 Pau Casals of L´Auditori to share it with the Orchestra and with its conductor Kazushi Ono is already approaching its premiere before the public. After months of preparation with the choir directors Elisenda Carrasco and Pere Lluís Biosca and the stage director David Pintó, the singers are now facing the final rehearsals where they will put together the work carried out with the musicians of the OBC before the three concerts that they will offer in the Pau Casals Hall of L´Auditori.
These are the Canta concerts with the OBC in which well-known works from the operatic and symphonic-choral repertoire are performed, as iconic as the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel´s Messiah, Mazurca de las Sombrillas (Luisa Fernanda) of Federico Moreno Torroba, Mozart´s Lacrimosa (Requiem), or Carl Orff´s O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, among many others.
The premiere will be held on Friday, 27 April at 7:30 p.m. under the baton of the OBC’s principal conductor, the maestro Kazushi Ono. The second opportunity to enjoy this project will be on Saturday, 28 April at 7:30 pm, under the direction of Elisenda Carrasco and on Sunday, 29 April at 11 am there will be a very special version of the concert “Sing with the OBC”, as 500 singers will join the choir to jointly perform three works, making a total of 800 voices. These 500 singers are part of the more than 2,700, who signed up to be part of the choir but were left without a place, and who did not want to miss the opportunity to enjoy the experience at L’Auditori.
“Sing with the OBC” is an initiative that reaffirms the commitment of the OBC to be an orchestra of proximity with the citizenship and to be part of the musical life of the city as well as to attract new audiences and retain the loyalty of existing ones. The proposal is part of the European EO-LAB II project of collaboration between various European orchestras such as the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and the Tonkünstler Orchestra.
