Last Friday 28th September marked the start of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra’s new season. The concert was repeated on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th, attracting almost 6,000 spectators.
The programme is the first to be conducted by maestro Kazushi Ono after the announcement of his renewal for two more seasons, until 2012-22, as principal director of the OBC.
The repertoire of the performance, which was composed of Gustav Mahler’s Fifthem> and Robert Schumann’s Concerto for Four Horns and Orchestra, featured a number of first-class soloists including the horn players Stefan Dohr and José Manuel Gómez.
Maestro Ono will conduct Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique this weekend
The next dates with the OBC will be next weekend, on 5th, 6th and 7th October, with a programme starring Tchaikovsky’s Symphony no. 6 in B minor, op. 74, “Pathétique”.
The event will also include a performance by the prestigious pianist Piotr Anderszewski of Bartók’s Piano Concerto no. 3, and will end withthe world premiere of Homenatge a Bernstein, a work commissioned by the OBC to the Barcelona composer Marcos Fernández.
