The Chamber Music Season starts on 10 October with an outstanding programme performed by the Orquestra da Camera, an ensemble that pays tribute to the Associació Música da Camera, a chamber music association founded by Pau Casals in 1913. The Orquestra comprises members from some of the main chamber groups in Spain, such as the Cuarteto Quiroga, which just received the 2018 National Music Prize; the Casals, Dalia, Elias and Cosmos quartets; the Trio VibrArt, as well as members from the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester. The Orquestra da Camera will be conducted by violinist Antje Weithaas.
An ambitious programme with Russian, German and English music
The highlight of the repertoire chosen by the Orquestra da Camera is one of the most iconic works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Serenade for Strings in C major, a true milestone of the repertoire for orchestra. The concert will continue with one of the emblematic works by Richard Strauss, Metamorphosen, study for 23 solo strings, written at the end of the Second World War. Finally, we will hear Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, written by Benjamin Britten as a tribute to his teacher.
Chamber Music Season will continue on 21 October with the first concert from Schubert Lied, a series that will give audiences a chance to discover a large part of the composer’s work with the voices of young Spanish and international talents. The first concert will feature mezzosoprano Marie Seidler and pianist Joseph Middleton as a substitute for Malcolm Martineau, who is unable to take part in the programme for reasons unrelated to L’Auditori.
2018 National Music Prize winner Cuarteto Quiroga will take part in the opening concert for the Chamber Music Season at L’Auditori
