As part of its participation in the Emergents Festival, the JONC (National Youth Orchestra ‎of ‎Catalonia) invites pianist Levon Avagyan, winner of the 2017 Maria Canals International ‎Music Competition, and violinist Sara Cubarsi, this year’s winner of an internal orchestra ‎competition held amongst current and former members of the JONC, to perform as soloists.‎The National Youth Orchestra of ‎Catalonia (JONC) project remains in top form, as has been ‎demonstrated by the exceptionally high standards the ensemble has shown in its recent ‎concerts. The initiative, directed artistically by Manuel Valdivieso, gives young musicians the ‎unique experience of training in orchestral work under the guidance of first-class teachers ‎and conductors. As part of its participation in the Emergents Festival, the JONC invites pianist ‎Levon Avagyan, winner of the 2017 Maria Canals International Music Competition, and ‎violinist Sara Cubarsi, this year’s winner of an internal orchestra competition held amongst ‎current and former members of the JONC, to perform as soloists. Avagyan, winner of a ‎dozen international prizes and with a promising and dynamic career as a soloist, will perform ‎‎Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18 by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This is an exuberant piece ‎that requires a solid command of instrumental technique and immense expressive capacity ‎to portray its profoundly romantic discourse. Cubarsi, winner of the El Primer Palau prize 2013 ‎and an expert in the performance of contemporary music, will offer us Alban ‎Berg’sViolin Concerto, which premiered in Barcelona on 19th April 1936 and ‎represents, through its formal structure and expressive capacity, one of the best works ‎written in the twelve-tone system developed by Arnold Schönberg.‎
