The Fortuny Trio, one of the most powerful ensembles on the Catalan music scene, presents a programme based on works by contemporary European composers at L’Auditori, without neglecting the great works in the repertoire.

Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in F major, KV 280, Estonian Arvo Pärt composed –or arranged?, versioned?, transformed? – a posthumous musical tribute to Russian violinist Oleg Kagan, soulmate and virtuoso performer of Mozart’s works. “In trio format, the violin and cello provide commentary, footnotes, reflections on the original material”, quoted verbatim.
Bent Sørensen’s Phantasmagoria, the national premiere of this concert, is based on the composer’s short work for cello and piano, reworked into a trio with piano in five movements around the phantasmagorical idea of darkness and shadow. The night, indissoluble from the romantic idea of the creative spirit, inspires Ernst Bloch’s Three Nocturnes, as hypnotic as they are energetic. The Piano Trio, Op. 49 is the most canonical work of the concert, which Mendelssohn rewrote and reworked into one of the most emblematic pieces for piano trio.
