The choir RIAS Kammerchor comes to L’Auditori to perform a highly evocative programme that combines the past and present through the Requiems of Tomás Luis de Victoria and Bernat Vivancos.The RIAS Kammerchor is one of the most important vocal ensembles on the scene today. With 60 years of history, it has been the winner of several awards at the prestigious ECHO KLASSIK awards, including for best ensemble in 2017. The RIAS Kammerchor comes to L’Auditori with its new lead conductor, Justin Doyle, to perform a highly evocative programme that combines past and present through the Requiems of Tomás Luis de Victoria and Bernat Vivancos. Victoria, one of the most celebrated composers of the Spanish Renaissance, composed his second Requiem in 1603 for the Office of the Dead for the Holy Roman Empress Maria. The work has an austere and refined polyphonic style that shines with extraordinary fervour within an atmosphere of spiritual serenity. Vivancos, a composer with a special sensitivity for vocal music, leads us to a luminous, plural meditation on the theme of transcendence in his Requiem of 2015. The music of Vivancos demonstrates an extraordinary material and conceptual richness and exudes extreme beauty. The result is an enduring combination of contradictions that speaks to us, from the most profound of places, of the complexity of the world.
