The Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra ranks among the finest in the world alongside such leading orchestras as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.. The Orchestra was founded in 1951 and originally attached to the All-Union Radio Committee. In 1953 it became part of the Moscow Philharmonic Society.Over the years it has given nearly 10,000 concerts in over 50 countries, appearing in major concert halls and at prestigious festivals. The Orchestra has performed under some of the finest Russian and foreign conductors, including G. Abendroth, K. Sanderling, A. Klyuitens, F. Konvichny, L. Maazel, I. Markevich, Benjamin Britten, Z. Mehta, S. Munch, K. Penderecki, Y. Botnari, M. Jansons, K. Zecchi and Igor Stravinski.

Samuel Samosud (1951-1957), was the Orchestra’s first musical director, specialising in symphonic music and opera. During the period when it was conducted by Kirill Kondrashin (1960-1976) the Orchestra made many successful appearances in the USSR and abroad, including the United States.

Yuri Botnari is conductor of the Barcelona Philharmonic Orchestra as well as acting as its musical director. He is also guest conductor for many orchestras, including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra, the Romanian Radio National Orchestra, Banat Philharmonic and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has also been awarded a gold medal for his work in Moldova, is on the Grammy awards panel, is a member of the League of American Orchestras and of the Musicians’ Union.

He studied at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow under Yuri Simonov and Gennady Rozhdestvensky. He also took a master’s degree at the Leningrad State Conservatory where he studied under Ilia Mussin.

Yuri Botnari has made recordings of the works of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Mussorgsky and many other major works on CD and DVD with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leningrad State Concert Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra and the Romanian Radio National Orchestra.

He has toured in many countries, including the United Kingdom, Korea, Japan, China, Spain, Germany, Romania, Russia and Eastern Europe.

Boris Belkin began studying violin at the age of six, giving his first public performance when he was seven.
