Before the concert, Jordi Oriol and the Indi Gest company will introduce the work by means of a dramatised presentation explaining its context, in a free, creative format.

Richard Wagner is well known as an operatic composer. However, he never claimed that his tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung was an opera, instead calling it a “musical drama”. His aesthetic ambitions went even further and he incorporated the concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk, or total work of art, which brings together various disciplines in a single work.

We will hear a selection from Götterdämmerung, the fourth and final day of the tetralogy, when the battle between gods and humans (and a dragon or two) to acquire the ring that confers on its owner the power to rule the world comes to an end. The stirring music includes the descriptive interlude “Siegfried’s Rhine Journey” and the heart-rending “Funeral March”, which pays tribute to the death of the hero Siegfried.
