José Luis Guerín in conversation with Núria Aidelman

Mixed platters is a series of four thematic sessions based on concepts linked to Listening with Your Hands temporary exhibition, which invite us to rethink the value of the analog object in the current paradigm of the digital environment.

Memories travel in an elusive and indeterminate space between the physical and the immaterial. Unraveling them can become an exercise in fiction with which our memory is modeled. Objects, apparently inanimate, are imbued with the soul of their disappeared owners. Filling holes in a damaged memory makes us feel vulnerable and attentive to our everyday surroundings.

In 1998 José Luis Guerín gave us a marvel: Tren de sombras, a poetic visual essay with which he explores the inevitable passage of time through the materiality and degradation of the photochemical support. Based on this experience, the dialogue between José Luis Guerín and Núria Aidelman will open questions and reflections on the fragility – and extraordinary power – of cinema and images.

Núria Aidelman (Buenos Aires, 1979) is co-director of A Bao A Qu, an association dedicated to the pedagogy of creation (with projects such as Cinema en curs, Fotografia en curs, Moving Cinema or Artistes en residència). Author of numerous photography and film publications, she teaches at Pompeu Fabra University. She was a programmer for Xcèntric and Gandules at the CCCB.
