Program
“El aire que te rodea” presenta una selecció de cançons a partir dels versos de poetes iberoamericans com García Lorca o Rubén Darío, musicats per Vitier i interpretats per Martirio.El aire que te rodea is the name of the record and the show that brought together the talents and sensitivities of the Cuban musician José María Vitier –author of the soundtrack of “Fresa y chocolate” -and the artist Maribel Quiñones Martirio. Recorded in Havana, this work is a selection of songs from the verses of some of the most important Latin American poets. Put to music by Vitier and performed by Martirio, the texts by García Lorca, Rubén Darío, San Juan de la Cruz, Vicente Nuñez and Julio Herrera, amongst others, take on new life for voice and piano, a life that projects a very special sound dimension through rhythms and cadences to and fro across the Atlantic. Guajira sound and tones blend with flamenco and melodic airs of the ‘copla’ in a performance of flirting and seduction led by the understanding between Vitier and Martirio and backed by an instrumental band with percussion, strings and the accent of the flamenco tres of Raúl Rodríguez.
