Program

Esclerock 2011 charity rock concertOn 11 November, the GAEM Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis Sufferers’ Group, which has its home in the Parc Científic de Barcelona, is holding the third edition of the Esclerock charity concert in the Pau Casals Hall at L’Auditori de Barcelona to raise funds to help finance bio-clinical research projects.

The event will start at 9pm with appearances by new Catalan musicians, including Patxi Leiva, Boxets and Mon Sogas, as well as performances from the groups Els Catarres and Gossos.
To become the message from multiple sclerosis sufferers and the image of the concert, Patxi Leiva has composed a song in collaboration with Natxo Tarrés, Els Catarres, Mon Sogas and Boxets.
The GAEM Foundation is a non-profit making organisation founded in 2006. Its Chairman is Vicens Oliver, who has been suffering from the illness since 1993, and Dr Fernando Albericio, its Deputy Chairman and General Manager of the Parc Científic de Barcelona.

Multiple Sclerosis is a degenerative, chronic and inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that destroys the protective layer (myelin) of the nerve fibres responsible for isolating the nerves and enabling nerve impulses to be transmitted correctly. Sufferers see their mobility reduced which reaches a state of disability in the most severe cases. It appears in young people, between the ages of 20 and 40, and is the second cause of disability among young adults after traffic accidents. In Spain, there are around 40,000 sufferers, of whom 6,000 live in Catalonia. Some 2,500,000 cases have been diagnosed worldwide.
