L’Auditori de Barcelona continues its focus on the string quartet as an exceptional genre of chamber music. This season, we will enjoy three projects that are representative of the European, American and Russian schools. This season, we will enjoy three projects that are representative of the European, American and Russian schools.
The Armida Quartett represents the European school. Founded in Berlin in 2006, the string quartet was selected as the ECHO Rising Star for 2017. In their concert at L’Auditori, they will offer us a performance of two composers of reference in the genre: Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert. We will also hear one of Beethoven’s first forays into composing for string quartets: the first of the six quartets op. 18, which he meticulously composed based on a study of the works of his admired Haydn and Mozart. Next is Schubert’s last string quartet, a deeply moving work which reflects his excellent mastery of the compositional language. The programme is then completed with the premiere of Fràgil (Fragile) by Ramon Humet, the L’Auditori’s guest composer this season. The work is written for string quartet and electronics, which Humet uses to amplify friction, attacks and resonances at the limits of audible sound.
