Luxury inauguration of the OBC season: Prokofiev and Montsalvatge, Cor Madrigal and Orfeó Català, with contralto Ewa Podlés.Pablo González will be opening his second season as conductor of the OBC together with two large Catalan choirs: the Orfeó Català and the Cor Madrigal who, with the always warmly welcomed Polish contralto Ewa Podles, will be performing the epic music Prokofiev composed for Einsenstein’s film about Russian hero Alexander Nevski.
The Orfeó Català and the OBC have come together for this season, which marks the centenary of the birth of Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge, to perform the emotional Cant Espiritual, with lyrics by Joan Maragall, the centenary of whose death is being commemorated. Two great works from the choral symphonic repertoire which are preceded by Prokofiev’s classic Symphony, an initial exercise that bears his stamp but without forgetting the roots of the genre.
