Program
Created in Granollers in 1996, VEUS-Cor Infantil Amics de la Unió has completed twenty-five years on stage and brought choral music to auditoriums, squares, and festivals throughout Europe. We’re celebrating this silver anniversary with this Christmas concert, which covers more than a hundred years of European music with a common element: the presence of the harp and horns, which envelope the heart with the typical sound of Romanticism. Johannes Brahms pioneered it with Vier Gesänge, the first of which begins precisely with Friedrich Ruperti’s poem Es tönt ein voller Harfenklang (“You can hear the full echo of a harp”). One of the first full-fledged solo harpists was the German, Albert Zabel, author of didactic works and also of advanced study for this instrument, such as the delightful Am Springbrunnen (The Fountain). The concert’s central work is the well-known Christmas composition A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, in the original version for choir of young soprano voices and harp. And it is with harp and horns that Bernat Vivancos, a resident composer at the Auditori, presents a new version of L’ametller (The Almond Tree) in this anniversary concert.
