A tabla player based in Amsterdam, his solid background in the tabla tradition combined with his ability to incorporate influences from jazz and around the world in a meaningful and innovative way have made him one of the most sought after in Europe.

Born in Bangladesh, he started playing music at the age of five and by the time he reached adolescence he was already accompanying the main musicians of Dhaka. In 1993, he received a scholarship from the Government of India to study with tabla maestro Sudhir Kumar Saxena and supplemented his training with maestro Shri P.K. Shridhar.

He has played with some of the greats of Indian classical music such as Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Niladrikumar, Kala Ramnath, Dhruba Ghosh, Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee, Buddhadev Das Gupta, Pt. Rajan-Sajan Misra, as well as with Western formations and artists such as Metropole Orchestra, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra, Dutch National Ballet Orchestra, Terry Riley, Jan Akkerman, Hans Dulfer, The Analogues, Drums United, among others.

He is a tabla teacher at Codarts in Rotterdam and at the Amsterdam Conservatory. His accessible, systematic and evocative way of conveying the complex tradition of this instrument attracts advanced students from all over the world.
