Curiosity, diversity and integrity are the overriding characteristics of Jean-Guihen Queyras’ artistic work. On stage and in his recordings, one discerns a passionate artist totally dedicated to music, whose perspective on scores clearly reflects his essence.

His approaches to Early Music – in his collaborations with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Concerto Köln – as well as to Contemporary Music, are equally thorough. He has performed the world premieres of works by Ivan Fedele, Gilbert Amy, Bruno Mantovani, Michael Jarrell, Johannes-Maria Staud and Thomas Larcher, among others. Conducted by the composer himself, he recorded Peter Eötvös’s Cello Concerto, in November 2014.

He is a founding member of the Arcanto Quartet and forms a well-known trio with Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov. Another regular collaborator is Alexandre Tharaud. He also creates and executes projects with Kevyan and Bijan Chemirani, specialists with the Iranian percussion instrument zarb.

His versatility has taken him to numerous halls, festivals and orchestras, in addition to being invited as an artist in residence to venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Vredenburg in Utrecht and the Wigmore Hall in London.

He has performed with some of the world’s leading orchestras, such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester; collaborating with conductors such as Ivan Fischer, Philippe Herreweghe and Sir Roger Norrington.

He has performed Bach’s Integral Cello Suites at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, and has played with the Orquesta de Galicia, OBC and the Orquesta Nacional de España. In 2019 he performed at the Auditorio Nacional de Madrid and at the Palau de la Música de Barcelona in trio with Tabea Zimmermann and Daniel Sepec.

He plays a cello built by Gioffredo Cappa in 1696, on loan from Mécénat Musical Société Générale.
