Jaume Santonja was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfónica di Milano for the 2022-2023 season, a testament to his growing reputation and artistic excellence.
Former associate conductor of the Basque National Orchestra, he is a regular guest of the main orchestras of his native Spain, such as the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, the Orquesta Filharmónica de Màlaga, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, and the Oviedo Filarmonía.
Former assistant conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the United Kingdom, Santonja has also conducted the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, the Stavanger Symphony, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Phion Orkest, the Zuidnederland Philharmonic and the Belgrad Philharmonic, among many others.
In June 2020 he was selected among the four most promising young conductors to participate in the exclusive masterclasses with Ivan Fisher and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam.
In the 2022-2023 season he will make his debut with the Orquestra de la Fondazione Arena di Verona, the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Norrlandsoperan in Umeå (Sweden).
This 2023-2024 season, Jaume will once again visit the orchestras Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Symphony Orchestra of Milan, the Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife, among others. Debuts are also anticipated with the Haydn Orchester of Bolzano and Trento, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.
