Guilhaume Santana was born in Toulouse, the French-Chilean musician studied violin for 10 years before switching to the bassoon. He studied with Prof. Dag Jensen in Hannover and at the Karajan Academy in Berlin.
Guilhaume Santana is the Principal Bassoon of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. He held the same position for 10 seasons with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and the Orchestra Mozart.
A regular guest of major orchestras, he performs with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under all famous batons (Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Riccardo Chailly, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta).
A soloist, Guilhaume Santana appears with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Munich Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, German Radio Philharmonic, Orchestra Mozart under the Maestros Claudio Abbado, Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, Gustavo Gimeno, Karel Mark Chichon and has recorded for the labels Deutsche Grammophon and Claves. He performs Chamber Music with Sabine Meyer, Albrecht Mayer, Emmanuel Ax, Till Fellner, and the Berliner Barocksolisten at venues including the Berlin Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall New York, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Vienna Musikverein.
