Francesc Prat is a conductor and composer who takes an open-minded approach to music. He collaborates regularly with many of the orchestras he works with, including the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Essener Philharmoniker, Nederlands Kamerorkest, RTV Slovenia, and the symphony orchestras of Barcelona and Madrid. He is the principal guest conductor of the Basel-based ensemble ö! and artistic director of the Orquestra de Menorca and GIO Symphonia. On the contemporary scene, he has conducted projects at events such as the Lucerne Festival, the Basel Composition Competition, the Berlinale and the Sónar Festival.
In the opera field, he made his début at the Teatro Real in 2016 conducting a performance of Das Liebesverbot. Recently, he has conducted Joan Magrané’s Diàlegs de Tirant in Peralada and at the Liceu, Pierrot Lunaire at the Liceu, and Die Zauberflöte at the Theater Basel. He has also worked at the Dutch National Opera, Neuköllner Opera Berlin, and Teatro de la Zarzuela.
As a composer, his works have won awards in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Austria.
Francesc Prat began his musical training at the Escolania de Montserrat choir school. He continued his studies in Barcelona and later graduated in oboe from the Musikhochschule Luzern, in composition from the Hochschule Basel, and in conducting from the Zürcher Hochschule.
