Founded in 1983, Cobla Sant Jordi holds the title of "Cobla Ciutat de Barcelona", awarded by the city council in 1997.
Currently directed by Marcel Sabaté, it is worth noting the figure of Jordi León as titular director of the cobla from its foundation until 2007, together with Manuel Oltra as artistic adviser.
It is a formation that offers the whole range of music for couplets, from the most classic sardanas to the most innovative challenges. It has a selection of the best instrumentalists of the moment and has been directed by the country's most important bands.
Cobla Sant Jordi has recorded more than ninety works, among which stand out the monographs of the classics Eduard Toldrà, Joan and Ricard Lamote de Grignon, Manuel Oltra, Rafael Ferrer, Domènec Moner, Narcís Paulís and Josep Serra; contemporaries Marc Timón, Enric Ortí and Joan Lluís Moraleda; the fusions with Joan Albert Amargós and Lluís Vidal, Pascal Comelade, Niño Josele, Roger Mas, Carme Canela, Raph Dumas, Grup Coses, Kulbik Dance Company, DJ Mario Nieto, Kepa Junkera and Kaulakau; in addition to recordings of sardana classics or dedicated sardanas.
This year it will perfome shows such as Coblism 3 which brings together the DJ and music producer of Rosselló, Raph Dumas, the dance company Cobosmika and Cobla in a unique show of music for cobla, electronics and dance. This will be the show of the proclamation of Sant Cugat Capital of the Sardana. Moreover, this year it premieres the Cor i Cobla show at the Barcelona Festival Grec. In May, it will offer spectacular concert in L’Auditori de Barcelona with the Cobla Marinada, the Cobla de l'ESMUC, Marcel Sabaté, Alfons Reverté and Antoni Ros-Marbà.
It has been recognised with the Enderrock (2013), Altaveu (2012) and Ciutat de Barcelona de Música (2011) awards.
