Interpreters and guest artists

Barcelona Symphony Band
Juan Miguel Romero, conductor
Marta Mathéu, soprano
Vicent Ombuena, tenor

Again this year, the symphony band places itself at the service of the zarzuela, the lyrical genre that predominated in Spain until well into the 20th century. Even though the zarzuela these days has somewhat declined in popularity, many of its melodies still linger in the collective imaginary.

Program

Juan Miguel Romero – who you will remember was assistant conductor of our band at the beginning of his professional career – returns to take his place on the podium at L’Auditori to bring us some unforgettable songs, such as “El Dúo de La Africana” (The Duet from L'Africaine), the romanza from “La Tabernera del Puerto” (The Innkeeper of the Port) and passages from “Cançó d’Amor i de Guerra” (Song of Love and War) together with musical excerpts such as the overture of “El Tambor de Granaderos” (The Grenadiers’ Drum) and the splendid “¡Viva Navarra!” concerto jota.
