Program
.The most catchy tune of all those Mozart composed – the opening of the Symphony no. 40 – is only the prelude to a masterpiece full of surprises, the real zenith of classical music, which we will hear the same week that marks 95 years of the premiere of the ballet Pulcinella with sets by Picasso.
Having triumphed in Paris with three works that turned the concept of music-ballet upside down – The Firebird, Petrushka and The Rite of Spring – Stravinsky once again returned to the genre, but this time with a work that refers to the language of the eighteenth century and the characters of Commedia dell’arte. With Pulcinella, the composer began his neoclassical period, a return to the smaller orchestral forces and to the spirit of composers such as Pergolesi, Bach and Mozart.
