Program
.Two Catalan authors that define our music from the twentieth century to the twenty-first: the elegance of Eduard Toldrà and the strength of Joan Guinjoan. Along with Dvorák’s Eighth, a work impregnated with the traditional music of the composer’s native Bohemia.
The Symphony No. 8 by Dvorák fully responds to the ideal of Romanticism and the revaluation of popular music. Dvorák, having a love of traditional music, made an elegant and personal use of it that has made the Eighth Symphony one of his most performed works. Toldrà was also passionate about folk music: as an example, Empúries, a free Sardana for orchestra that established himself as a composer.
