A performance by three Catalan concert bands encompassing different musical styles and eras, delivered with the hallmark versatility and quality of bands from Catalonia. The Banda de la Associació Musical SYMPHOCAT (SYMPHOCAT Music Association Band) will open the Festival with a series of key pieces from the Jazz, Swing, Bossa nova, orchestral and classical music genres.
The Banda de l’Agrupació Musical L’Emburgada del Perelló (L’Emburgada Music Association Band from El Perelló) will present a performance ranging from the chords of pasodobles, passing through a powerful and brilliant fanfare, symphonic works for Concert Band and a sardana, demonstrating the versatility of these music ensembles.
The Banda de la Unió Musical de Tarragona – BUMT (Tarragona Music Union Band – BUMT) offers us the most traditional Concert Band music sounds with the pasodoble, subsequently moving on to an impressive symphony by Robert W. Smith. The composer studied Dante and the Divine Comedy, and, in particular, the Odyssey, which lends its name to this symphony that contains a total of four movements, each of which is noteworthy for having an intricate and imaginative structure of percussive and wind effects. The movements are: I. The Iliad; II. The Winds of Poseidon; III. The Isle of Calypso; IV. Ithaca. In short, a musical Odyssey through Greece.
