Program

In association with ESMUC, THE EMERGENTS BARCELONA MUSIC FESTIVAL presents this double concert with pianist Xavi Torres and the saxophone and clarinet player Lluc Casares.PianistXavi Torres is one of the most prominent and promising musicians on the Spanish jazz scene. He graduated from ESMUC with honours in jazz piano, and reached professional standard for classical piano and percussion. He is currently living in Amsterdam where he has completed a Master’s degree in Jazz and Classic Piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. His projects include leading his own group, the Xavi Torres Trio, which has recently been awarded the “Best Group 2015” by the Catalan Association of Jazz Musicians and Modern Music (AMJM). He has also won an award at Holland’s most prestigious competition, the “Dutch Jazz Competition 2016” and at the “Keep An Eye International Jazz Award”.
At the Emergents Festival he performs a programme of his own compositions for solo piano.

Lluc Casares (1990) studied a bachelor of music in clarinet and jazz saxophone at ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) and his lecturers included Xavier Figuerola and Eladio Reinón. He graduated in 2012 and went on to study a Master in piano interpretation at the CVA (Conservatorium Van Amsterdam) where he continues to work on projects with local and international musicians. The group he co-leads ‘Trempera!’ won 2nd prize at the Keep An Eye International Jazz Award with the award for ‘Best Monk Arrangement’.
Lluc’s debut concert at L’Auditori has an unusual and rare format which is based on the classic trio arrangement (saxophone, double bass and drums), but doubles the base instruments. We are honoured to have Joost Patocka one of the most sought after drummers in Holland performing, the legendary Horacio Fumero on double bass, Joan Casares as the second drummer and Giuseppe Romagnoli completes the line up on the double bass.
