Program

The triumph of the Russian Revolution in 1917 and that of the Allies in World War II began and closed a programme that evokes times of war in the twentieth century. Glière wrote Solemn Overture for the twentieth anniversary of the October Revolution.

DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM HERE The musician held official positions during those turbulent years and, in 1938, became president of the Soviet Composers Union. Milhaud included in Suite française popular melodies from the five provinces where the Allies had defeated fascism – from Normandy to Provence – with the desire that American students, for whom the work was intended, would come to know all about them by interpreting them. Philippe Bach, trained in the band tradition and current musical director of the Meiningen Theatre, proposes completing the concert with the well-known music of the third act of the opera Parsifal, and with the national premiere of Berglicht, a symphonic poem inspired by landscapes, which transports us to the German Rhineland-Palatinate’s Länder.
