Program
The young, multi-awarded violinist Nicola Benedetti is one of the most highly rated of her generation. Her ability to captivate audiences with her innate musicality and her stage presence have made her one of the most influential musicians of the moment. Benedetti performs at L’Auditori leading a super-trio with cellist Leonard Elschenbroich and pianist Alexei Grynyuk, regular soloists at top concert halls around the world.
The trio’s concert repertoire at L’Auditori includes two masterpieces of the chamber music literature. The first is Robert Schumann’s Trio No. 1, op. 63, in which the composer reflects his complex and diaphanous language in his ability to unite contrasts, in the delicate way in which he uses the counterpoint and in the subtle harmonic inflections. The second piece is Trio No. 1, op. 8, the first chamber music work published by Johannes Brahms and to which he would give the final touches thirty-five years later. To complete the programme, the trio will perform Fremde Szenen (III) , a classic piece in 20th-century chamber music, in which Wolfgang Rihm skilfully combines tradition with a very personal language.
