The Austrian-Spanish conductor Teresa Riveiro Böhm will be associate conductor of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra during the 2022-23 season.
She will assist resident conductor Ludovic Morlot and will attend rehearsals, concerts and recording sessions by the Orchestra.
Teresa Riveiro made the following comments: “It is a great pleasure for me, and a great responsibility, to have been appointed associate conductor of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. I am very grateful for this splendid opportunity, offered to me by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and resident conductor Ludovic Morlot!”.
As the new associate conductor she will conduct the Orchestra for the first time on 25 September in a concert celebrating La Mercè, in the Plaça Major in Nou Barris. They will be playing Dvořák’s Carnival Overture, Symphony No. 7 by Beethoven and Scherzo sobre un tema popular (Scherzo Based on a Popular Tune) by Joan Lamote de Grignon.
Teresa Riveiro’s new position with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra coincides with her recent appointment as associate conductor of the Welsh National Opera. Previously, in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, she was Leverhulme Conducting Fellow of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She was awarded the Neeme-Järvi-Prize at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival 2019.
In 2021-2022 she conducted with the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, the Robert Schumann Philharmonie, the Kremerata Baltica at the Kronberg Academy Festival, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre national de Metz, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Previous orchestral highlights include appearances with the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic, Philharmonie Südwestfalen, the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Red Note Ensemble.
In previous seasons Riveiro Böhm received the first prize in the Dichler Wettbewerb Competition in Vienna, the first orchestra prize from the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, and was appointed as Tanglewood Conducting Fellow.
She has assisted with opera productions such as Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Oper Burg Gars in Austria, and choral works, including Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Trier Cathedral as part of the Mosel Music Festival, and Bruckner’s Symphony No.9 at Cologne Cathedral.
Riveiro Böhm studied Orchestral Conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) with Johannes Wildner and at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne with Alexander Rumpf and Stephan E. Wehr (opera). She previously studied Church Music at the MDW, studying Choir Conducting with Erwin Ortner. At five years old she received her first violin lessons and studied at the Central Music School affiliated with the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
