Keith Fullerton Whitman
Three prominent analogue synthesizer artists will perform unique sessions as part of a day organised with the OUT.SIDE programme, a cycle of unusual music hosted by arts centres in Catalonia. German musician Thomas Lehn has developed his own electronic music language in particular using the EMS Synthi A analogue synthesizer produced in 1971. He uses the synthesizer as a live performance instrument and produces extraordinary high levels of brilliance in his performances. Dutch musician Thomas Ankersmit’s work is focused on exploring acoustic and psychoacoustic phenomena using a Serge Modular synthesizer (from 1974) and the digital processor from a computer. Sound reflections, infrasonic vibration, otoacoustic emissions, ultra-directional sounds, feedback and signal interruptions, as well as the deliberate misuse of equipment, are central to his extreme, visceral and at the same time sophisticated sound phenomena vision. North American Keith Fullerton Whitman has recorded around twenty electronic music albums since the 90s. His work is also based on a hybrid system combining synthesizers, and processing and signal generating software. Fullerton Whitman establishes work methods allowing him to create live electronic music, a musical approach synonymous with the specialist world of modular synthesizers.
