Arcangelo, one of the most acclaimed Early Music ensembles in Europe, presents some of the best orchestral and vocal works from the Baroque period under the direction of Jonathan Cohen. On this occasion, two brilliant, emerging vocalists have been invited: soprano Emöke Baráth and countertenor Maarten Engeltjes.Jonathan Cohen is one of the most brilliant British musicians on the scene today. With a passion for chamber music, in 2010 he founded Arcangelo which, over its eight years of existence, has become one of the most acclaimed Early Music ensembles in Europe. Their concert at L’Auditori will focus on the Baroque period, from which it will present some of the best orchestral and vocal works. Included in the orchestral pieces is the Concerto Grosso No. 4 in F major, Op. 3 by George Frederick Handel, elegant and full of contrasts, and the scintillating Concerto for 2 Violins in A minor by Antonio Vivaldi. The vocal pieces will see two brilliant, emerging vocalists invited by Arcangelo: soprano Emöke Baráth, who performs around the world alongside musicians such as Philippe Jaroussky and Jordi Savall; and countertenor Maarten Engeltjes who, despite his youth, has already performed under the baton of illustrious conductors such as Gustav Leonhardt, Vladimir Jurowski and William Christie. The performance with them will include Silete venti, one of Handel’s most lavish motets; the cantata Cessate, omai cessate, in which Vivaldi talks to us of love lost; and the famous and intense Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.
