Original works for band have a special sound all of their own and they make a particularly outstanding impact if they were written by great musicians, like Shostakovich or Schoenberg. The Barcelona Symphony Band will perform the second Suite for Variety Orchestra by the Russian composer. This includes the famous waltz that Kubrick featured in the film Eyes Wide Shut. They will also play Schoenberg's Theme and Variations, written when the composer had settled in the United States. Schoenberg's publisher commissioned him with a work for young music students and that is why it has a moving, gentle quality. Among the seven variations, it includes a nostalgic tribute to Vienna in the form of a waltz.

Americanism, by the Valencia-born composer Egea, is a work that he defines as "experimental and avant-garde". It testifies to his New York years, where he completed his studies in orchestral direction. The concert opens with Passacaglia by Ramos, one of the three only works for band by the Valencian composer and also one of the most important in his repertoire.
