Program
CrossingLines opens the Sampler Series season with 29, by Valencian composer Manuel Rodríguez Valenzuela, an ambitious 30-minute work for acoustic piano controlled by computer (disklavier), amplified ensemble, electronics and video. Rodríguez Valenzuela builds his own personal sound world juxtaposing ideas and expressions to create clever sound collages, often drawing on musical quotes and references. The colourful and extremely concise writing of Rodríguez Valenzuela generates works that require an extraordinary level of control of instrumental techniques, and shows musical imagination that is expressed throughout, and in which the ensemble is constantly changing in a dynamic combination of fragmented images with deeply rooted musical significance. The programme concludes with two instrumentations of Baroque works by Rodríguez Valenzuela written for the CrossingLines ensemble.
