Program

Quartet Diotima is one of the leading string quartets for new-music performance. Magrané’s ‎second string quartet, Alguns cants òrfics, includes verses from Notturni from ‎the book of poetry Canti Orfici by Italian poet Dino Campana, which Magrané ‎uses to create a breathtakingly expressive piece for quartet. Clamour by ‎Gervasoni emphasizes the need for open and deep expression of the important things, ‎affirming an emotional and semantic dimension as opposed to a bombast. Lachenmann ‎bases his music on shaping sound and creating continuity, revealing the unexpected and ‎offering a glimpse of the familiar. In the case of the string quartet, he reminds us that it’s all ‎about a musical conversation. This musical discourse, as with many of his works, questions ‎the act of listening through constant reorientation. In Lachenmann’s Grido, ‎despite reverting at certain moments to his particular use of the instruments’ bodies to ‎create sound, he uses the traditional quartet sound as a sound project with a 16-stringed ‎instrument.‎
