Japan’s Otomo Yoshihide is an undisputed pioneer of improvisation and experimentation, working as a turntablist since the 1980s. With an approach that draws on the Japanese noise scene of Merzbow and Ruins, free jazz and electronic music, Yoshihide uses turntables to exploit the technique to the full. He has released more than a hundred recordings and performed thousands of times around the world. This solo appearance in the Sampler Sèries follows on from a performance in the 2015-2016 season.
Composer, guitarist and improviser Ferran Fages is one of the most restless artists on the Barcelona experimental music scene. His work is an austere deconstruction of standard tropes, producing an immersive musical experience that is both minimalist and undeniably robust. Following his performances of What might occur and Llavi vell in the 2019-2020 season, this year he presents (un)folding strings for three electric guitars, with co-composers, improvisers and guitarists Diego Caicedo and Luis Codera.
