A Morning with the Orchestra for People with Alzheimer’s

An activity for people with Alzheimer’s disease

  • Hall 1 Pau Casals
  • Approx. duration: 2h
  • L'Auditori Apropa Activitats participatives

According to scientific studies, people living with Alzheimer’s disease respond to musical stimuli even in the more advanced stages of the disease.

For these individuals, music can still provide a live experience for enjoying the present while connecting with their own life history. Music, based on a person-centred approach, improves their quality of life.

Program

In the activity “A Morning with the Orchestra at L’Auditori”, those living with Alzheimer’s and their carers will be able to enjoy a threefold experience: meeting two ESMUC students who will also give a live performance, attending part of an OBC rehearsal, and finally, experiencing what it is like to make music themselves with various instruments in a music workshop.

The activity is aimed at people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, along with their families and carers, and provides them with an opportunity to continue enjoying live music after their diagnosis. It helps them take part in a social activity, share the experience with others, laugh, be moved and experience the evocative power of music, which will stimulate their memories and help them connect with their own personal experiences.

The activity is open to social centres registered with the programme Apropa Cultura.
