In the 1970s, fusion styles started to become popular, and jazz and Baroque music played an important role in them. Claude Bolling, a classically-trained jazz musician, wrote several creations he shared with renowned performers such as flautist Jean-Pierre Rampal, violinist Pinchas Zukerman, trumpet player Maurice André and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. It was for the latter that in 1984 he composed the Suite for Cello and Jazz Piano Trio. This is a work in six movements that combines Baroque style and jazz with a highly-original approach and which achieved record sales with the recording starring Yo-Yo Ma himself. On this occasion we present the version for viola.
