Program
A successor of the Baroque ensemble for two violins and cello, the string trio of violin, viola and cello is a very common arrangement in chamber music. This concert features some string trios by composers from Eastern Europe during the first half of the 20th century. Some composers are well known and are important milestones in the creation of their time, such as Enescu, Kodály and Martinů. Noteworthy are the works of the composers Hans Krása and Gideon Klein. Both written in 1944, these works were their last since they were murdered during the Nazi holocaust in the extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
