Program
Quartet No. 2 by Borodin is perhaps his most well-known chamber piece, in particular the 3rd movement, which was the basis for the song, “And this is my Beloved” from the Broadway musical Kismet. Inspired during a visit to Florence, the Sextet “Souvenir de Florence” by Tchaikovsky was dedicated to the St Petersburg Chamber Music Society in response to him becoming an honorary member in 1892. Along with Serenade for Strings this is one of the composer’s most successful chamber works.
