El Museu de la Música recull els 18 Moments estel·lars de la música simfònica a Barcelona en una exposició a l’aire lliure

16-Apr-2019 – Aleix Palau

The Museu de la Música is staging an exhibition that takes a look at the 18 great moments of symphonic music in Barcelona over the past three centuries.

The exhibition ‘18 Stellar Moments of Symphonic Music in Barcelona’ is installed on the columns of the L’Auditori’s Llanterna Bar, making it accessible and free to the public. Each explanatory panel includes a QR code that visitors can scan with their mobile phones to hear the music associated with each explanation.

The 18 moments selected range from the premiere of Antonio Caldara’s opera Il più bel nome in 1708 to the inauguration of L’Auditori on 22 March 1999 with Alicia de Larrocha on piano. These moments also include the Barcelona premieres of Così fan tutte by Mozart, The Creation by Haydn, St John Passion by Bach and the first performance of Wagner’s music by Anselm Clavé, as well as the visits by Chopin, Liszt, Strauss, Massenet, Schönberg, Britten and Berg.

Other notable moments include the world’s first recording of the concerts of Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Bruch, by Joan Manén, the world premiere of a fragment of Messiaen’s Turangalîla Symphony and the Wagner Festival held at the Liceu in 1955, which was the first time that the Bayreuth Festival Theatre had left its German auditorium.

Coordinated by the director of the Museu de la Música, Jaume Ayats, the exhibition includes texts written by various experts such as Joaquim Rabaseda, Mercedes Conde, Sara Guasteví, Pepe Reche and Oriol Pérez Treviño, among others.
