Program
Joan Manén wrote one of his most unusual and original works, the monodrama Medea, in 1932, right in the middle of his creative life. The work, which he wrote in collaboration with the playwright Ambrosi Carrión, was premiered by the famous ballet dancer Àurea de Sarrà at the Palau de la Música. It was so successful that it was performed several times in 1933.This concert, over 60 years after its last performance, will feature a work that reviews the mythological past and immerses you in the feelings experienced by the famous priestess, a typical independent and ground-breaking woman. The works by Lamote de Grignon and Toldrà to be played at the event also involve a return to the past: the stylised Baroque view of “Suite a l’antiga” (“Old-Style Suite”) and a passionate tribute to classicism in “Quartet per l’Art” (“Quartet for Art)”.
