Program

Mahler’s Third is the grandest symphony ever written, a musical cathedral in which Mahler deployed all the sonic effects imaginable: an orchestra with more than a hundred musicians, a female choir, a children’s choir and a solo voice.Pablo González returns to conducting the OBC in order to interpret this monument to sound that Mahler first performed in 1902; music writ large in praise of creation. Each of its six movements reflects on some aspect of our existence: telluric forces, nature,
animals, the birth of humanity, angels and love. The impressive first movement alone ensured that Mahler would go down in history. Fortunately, that was not enough for him and he finished composing the rest of it: the grandest symphony of all time.
