L’Auditori i el Museu de la Música celebren el Dia de la Música amb concerts gratuïts i jornades de ‎portes obertes

‎21 June is World Music Day, an international event which L’Auditori and the Museu de la ‎Música are celebrating with a range of free concerts. ‎

Two days of open doors at the Museu de la Música and a free, outdoor gamelan ‎concert
The activities will begin on Thursday 20 June at 6.30 pm with a free, outdoor concert at ‎L’Auditori’s La Llanterna, featuring Gamelan Penempaan Guntur (Gamelan of the Forge of ‎Thunder), the Museu de la Música’s permanent ensemble, who will demonstrate to the ‎public the fruits of its weekly rehearsals. ‎

This concert will mark the start of the open days at the Museu de la Música, which will be on ‎Thursday from 6 pm to 9 pm and then continue the following day, Friday 21, from 10 am to 6 ‎pm.‎

The music of Varèse, Boulez and Saariaho to close the 2018-19 Sampler Sèries ‎season
Also on Thursday 20, at 8 pm, Sala 1 Pau Casals will host the Varèse: Amériques ‎concert, performed by the ESMUC Symphony Band and conducted by Ernest Martínez ‎Izquierdo, which will be the closing concert of the 2018-19 Sampler Sèries season. ‎

The programme will consist of the colossal work Amériques by Edgard Varèse ‎along with Notations I-IV by Pierre Boulez, and Orion, the large-‎scale work by the prestigious Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho. ‎

The concert will be free and tickets must be collected in advance from L’Auditori’s box office. ‎

The OBC’s concert on the beach will be the orchestra’s final performance before ‎starting their tour of Japan
The Barcelona Symphony Orchestra returns to the beach with the traditional concert that ‎celebrates World Music Day and welcomes the arrival of summer.‎

The Sant Sebastià beach in La Barceloneta will once again be the setting for this concert, ‎which is completely free and will take place on Friday 21 June at 9 pm.‎

This year, the Polish conductor Michał Nesterowicz will lead the Barcelona Symphony ‎Orchestra with the music of celebrated composers such as Bizet, Sibelius, Saint-Saëns, ‎Borodin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Dvořák and Brahms, and also of the Polish composers Moniuszko ‎and Kilar, whose works have been chosen by maestro Nesterowicz.‎

Following the concert, the OBC will start a five-week tour which will take them to several ‎Japanese cities. ‎

Special discounts
The World Music Day celebration will round off with several special discounts on ‎subscriptions and concerts for the upcoming OBC season. ‎

These discounts are available from the L’Auditori website (www.auditori.cat) on 21, 22 and 23 ‎June.‎
