The famous Chinese pianist Lang Lang kicks off his Spanish tour tomorrow in the Auditori to promote his new album Lang Lang in Paris (Sony, 2015). The tour will run until 5 March and will include performances in different cities across Spain. In Barcelona, Lang Lang will offer a recital as part of the Auditori’s Chamber Music Season, in which he will interpret Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, Chopin’s four scherzos and Bach’s Italian Concerto, for which tickets are almost sold out. Both Chopin and Tchaikovsky have occupied a pre-eminent position in Lang Lang’s career. In 2012 The Chopin Album became one of the most famous albums of the piano superstar who, when he was only 17 years old, achieved great international success at the Ravinia Festival with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, playing Tchaikovsky, and later signed with the Deutsche Grammophon label.

Just two days later, on Friday 26, Lang Lang will share the stage for the first time with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. All the tickets for this unique concert sold out weeks ago. The repertoire chosen for this occasion includes the Così fan tutte overture by Mozart, Concert for piano no. 24, also by Mozart, and Concert for piano no. 1 in F sharp minor, op. 1 (final version in 1919) by Rachmaninov. The concert will be conducted by maestro Rubén Gimeno.

Lang Lang is considered one of the best pianists in the world and is particularly known for his precision and inspiration when performing. Despite his youth, he has collaborated with great artists from around the world, beginning with maestros such as Barenboim, Dudamel and Rattle, and continuing with artists outside the world of classical music, such as the dancer Marquese “nonstop” Scott, Julio Iglesias and Herbie Hancock, and establishing solid relationships with organisations that allow him to bring classical music to the general public and to build cultural bridges between East and West. In addition to his musical career, Lang Lang works intensely to share the music with new generations. He never forgets what inspired him for the first time, such as the great composers Liszt and Chopin, for example, and enjoys bringing them to the public. He never forgets the Tom and Jerry cartoons, such as The Cat Concerto, that got him into the music of Liszt when he was a child and which led him to what he refers to as his second job: that of bringing music to children all around the world, through his collaboration with the United Nations as a “Messenger of Peace”, and through his Lang Lang International Music Foundation. Time magazine named him in “Time 100”, as a symbol of the youth of China and its future. Lang Lang is also a cultural ambassador for Shenzhen and Shenyang and is an important role model for many young people, which is described by The Today Show as the “Lang Lang effect”.
